Web & Wix

 

You may be wondering why I am using Wix for my web site.  After all, I've done web application development for years.  Couldn't I just put together my own web site?

 

I could have developed this web site from scratch - I have all the tools (HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript, Java, JSP, JSF, PHP, all sorts of SQL, etc.) and I am even considering doing web development as a side business.  But my primary skills are oriented in the direction of capturing data using forms and developing complex business logic - not creating nice looking, simple, straight-forward web sites such as this.  The editor Wix has provided is really good with lots of templates and I was able to create this site in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to develop it from scratch.  It took me less than half an hour to not only create my home page but to have it published (available to the world) on the web.

 

And don't ignore this - the hosting is free.  Sure, for now I have wix.com in my address and you have to put up with a little Wix propaganda.  But you simply cannot beat this kind of a deal.

 

My oldest son, who does 3-D computer graphics and animation, developed a site using Wix to display his work and recommended Wix to me.  By using Wix, I will have a little more time to do other things I enjoy - like hiking in the great outdoors.

 

Havng said all this, I know that some people are a little shy about working on the computer.  If you would like me to build you a relatively simple web site using Wix, I will be happy to do so, charging similar rates as I do for genealogy research (which are a lot cheaper than anyone else is likely to charge).  You can contact me via this website or using my famhistory6973@yahoo.com email.  Just let me know roughly what you are looking for in a web site.  As per my usual practice, the initial consultation is free.  I will be expanding my offerings regarding web site building over time - not limiting myself (and you) to Wix.  But for now, I will be using only Wix.  Remember, the hosting is free.  At some point in the not too distant future, I will be adding a web site devoted to web site building.
